Chapter Eight

Taylor was usually a morning person, but there were times when he regretted his habit of waking up early and one of those times was the day after the bachelor party. They came home after three and it was now quarter past eight. He would have loved to sleep in. He’d planned on sleeping in. But with his mind already alert and going a hundred miles a minute, he knew it was a lost cause now.

He glanced at Kevin, still sleeping soundly at his side, facing Taylor. What the hell is going on? he asked himself as he watched his best friend and fought the urge to lean in closer. Taylor closed his eyes for a second before turning away to stare at the ceiling. He couldn’t blame what happened last night at the club on the alcohol. They had been drunk quite a few times before in each other’s company and it had never resulted in this. Taylor would laugh at anyone who would tell him there was even a little sexual tension between him and Kevin before they’d gotten here—before that first evening, when he’d scented Kevin and his whole body had been overcome by want. He hadn’t called it that then—he didn’t even let himself think it—but after last night Taylor could no longer fool himself. Whatever he’d felt that day wasn’t a simple recognition of one of his own, his pack. He didn’t react to anybody from the pack in that way. He didn’t feel the loss when he pulled away from anybody else… Not like that. The pack had a particular scent, and Kevin wore it now as well, making Taylor’s wolf very happy. But Kevin’s scent was more than just that and Taylor wondered if he just had to smell his pack on top of Kevin’s smell to suddenly go from best friends to, You smell like mine. You should smell like that all the time.

And the way Kevin reacted… Taylor got up quickly and went to the bathroom, shutting the door quietly behind him and clasping his hands on the edge of the sink. He stared at his reflection. His pupils were wide and he could feel his claws coming out. He could see them in the big mirror above the sink. He’d woken up half-hard, but now he was fully erect, his cock pushing against the front of his boxers. The flashes of Kevin tilting his head to the side and presenting him his neck, Kevin plastered to his body, Kevin’s cock against his thigh, didn’t help at all. Taylor took a few deep breaths and willed his claws to retract before palming his erection with one hand and biting his lower lip to stop a loud moan. You can’t. There’s no way Kevin won’t wake up and hear or smell it, he told himself, but his hips buckled into the touch without his conscious input. He hunched over the counter.

He pulled himself together with a series of deep breaths for long enough to undress and start a shower.
